Inclusive Adaptive Relais
Adaptive services at Relais Plein Air began in the winter of 2021, following the development of an inclusive outdoor recreation plan. The goal was clear: to provide access to nature for everyone, without exception.
Over four years later, we are proud of how far we've come. With about twenty adapted pieces of equipment available year-round, a team of trained and experienced guides, and accessible facilities, we’ve removed many barriers so that everyone can enjoy the outdoors fully.
The Inclusive Adaptive Relais is committed to removing, one by one, the obstacles that people with disabilities may face, in order to make outdoor experiences more accessible than ever—regardless of ability. We meet each person where they are, and walk alongside them to help reach their goals, while respecting their reality.
All services are completely free and offered as a turnkey experience. We provide not only the equipment, but all the surrounding support services needed to truly make accessibility possible. Every ingredient is in place for success—and the results speak for themselves.
This initiative was thoughtfully created and led by Marie Pier Bouladier, Coordinator of Inclusive Experiences.
Accessibility measures
-
Motor disability
We provide adapted equipment such as all-terrain wheelchairs, accessible tandems, adapted bicycles, and easy access to trails and facilities. Our guides ensure safety, comfort, and gradual independence.
-
Visual disability
We offer multi-sensory experiences, attentive verbal guidance, and tailored signage. Human guidance also helps establish a climate of trust conducive to discovery and enjoyment.
-
Intellectual disability or developmental disorder
We offer simplified routes, clear instructions, and structured activities, with trained guides who adapt their approach according to each person’s pace and level of understanding.
-
Surdité et déficience auditive
We can provide and cover the costs of a Quebec Sign Language (LSQ) or American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter upon request. We use clear and accessible sign interpretation. Our guides adjust their approach with kindness and patience according to each individual’s needs.
-
Person-focused approach
The accessibility measures we have implemented are guided by a person-centered approach, based on listening, adaptation, and gradual progression. We address multiple aspects to meet the diverse needs of clients with motor, visual, auditory, intellectual disabilities, or autism spectrum disorders. Whether temporary or permanent, we welcome all individuals with specific needs, without requiring medical documentation.
-
For everyone, without exception
Our approach is designed to be enabling and normalizing. That is why no official proof of disability is required. Each person is welcomed in their uniqueness, without judgment or pressure to perform.
Our goal is to provide genuine and meaningful access to outdoor recreation in a climate of respect, safety, and shared enjoyment. We welcome individuals with disabilities, whether temporary or permanent.
